Teachings in the Science of OsteopathyWilliam Garner Sutherland |
An edited transcript of the last courses of Dr. Sutherland. Osteopathy is a science with possibilities as great as the magnitude of the heavens. It is a science dealing with the natural forces of the body. We work as osteopaths with the traditional principle in mind that the tendency in the patient's body is always toward the normal. There is much to discover in the science of osteopathy by working with the forces within that manifest the healing processes. These forces within the patient are greater than any blind force that can safely be brought to bear from without. - W.G. Sutherland

Craniosacral Biodynamics: The Breath of Life, Biodynamics, and Fundamental SkillsFranklyn Sills |
Craniosacral Biodynamics vol.1 approaches work within the somatics field in a different way. Many foundation courses and books address a particular rhythm called the cranial rhythm. This book focuses more on locating the deeper and slower tidal rhythms generated by the action of the Breath of Life within the human system, which is considered to be the fundamental organising force within the natural world. Craniosacral Biodynamics vol.1 takes its lead from the later work of Dr William Garner Sutherland and Dr Rollin Becker. Volume 1 covers both the history and conceptual ideas fundamental to Craniosacral Biodynamics, as well as the more complex structural and tissue relationships. This is now in its second edition. Its been edited down slightly and now has a green cover.

Craniosacral Biodynamics: The Primal Midline and the Organisation of the BodyFranklyn Sills |
Based on the belief that functions of the human system are maintained and integrated by a bio-dynamic force known as "primary respiration", or the Breath of Life, Craniosacral Biodynamics vol.1 established a foundation in the basic theory and practitioner skills of craniosacral therapy. In Craniosacral Biodynamics vol.2 Franklyn Sills further explores this foundation, turning his attention to applying these healing skills within a more specific context. Written as a resource for both learning and clinical practice, Craniosacral Biodynamics vol.2 shows students and practitioners how to relate to the major tissue structures within a wide perceptual field and a craniosacral biodynamic orientation. A thorough survey of the major body areas, including motility, structure, and anatomical relationships, offers practical applications throughout the book. This essential text also focuses on perceptual and clinical skills, as well as the environment of biodynamic craniosacral practice.

1st British edition (1858)A superb, high quality digital facsimile of the original 1858 edition in a large format on very high quality paper. The book is possessed of a clarity and simplicity unmatched in later editions, both in the original line drawings by Henry Vandyke Carter, whose drawings of the cranial bones are the most beautiful you will ever see, and in the text of Gray himself. I can't praise this book highly enough. The only reason that there's no picture is that the book is too large to fit on my scanner! The first edition is often to be seen published in a small format on cheap paper at £1.99. Ignore these - the illustrations are simply too small to be of use. Get this edition instead. it says £30 on the flap but you should be able to pick one up at around £15 or less. Buy from Amazon UK (note that the negative reviews are for different editions)

Hidden Messages in WaterMasaru Emoto |
The Hidden Messages In Water explores water's susceptibility to human words, emotions and thoughts. Masaru Emoto has been researching this new field of science by freezing samples of water that have been exposed to either positive or negative words, emotions and music. Through photographs Dr. Emoto has found that water exposed to positive influences produces beautiful, perfectly formed crystals, while water exposed to negativity produces ugly, malformed crystals. Because the world and our bodies are both composed of 70 per cent water, the power to change the essence of water means that humans have the power to evoke change on a global or personal scale, by way of water. Unlike mainstream books, medical books aren't discounted by big on-line retailers such as Amazon because they don't have to - try Student Bookworld for these. In addition, p&p charges will add to the prices you see here. Ordering on-line is efficient and convenient, but if you are passing Waterstone's University Bookshop on Gower Street you will find most of these books there. Some of the cranial books can only be found from Osteopathic Supplies or Russell Medical.
