The CSTA upholds the highest standards of professional training and practice. Training courses vary in length from one to two years or more and are required to include:

A minimum of 300 hours of contact time with registered tutors and assistants

Ongoing written home study and practice

A staff/student ratio of 1:5

A final examination consisting of a written and a practical part or other final assessment in accordance with each school’s policy.

Students are expected to have a minimum of 80 classroom hours of training in anatomy, physiology and pathology, which some schools may offer. Introductory courses of between one and five days’ duration are also offered.

Students at accredited schools are invited to take advantage of student membership of the CSTA, which includes free insurance.
